MOVING HOUSE CHECKLIST
At BestMove we aim to make your moving experience as stress-free as possible. In our experience the earlier you start planning your move the better. Here is a simple moving house checklist to help you in that process. Individual situations will vary but these guiding principles apply to most moves.
Contact us for a quotation ideally around 6 weeks before your moving date
When we visit you to assess your requirements it’s helpful to know if anything needs to be cleared out before you move (especially large items of furniture). We can help with any clearance as required.
Set a target date for the move to take place – there can be hold-ups with conveyancing etc. so don’t worry if the date has to be changed, just keep us posted.
Once plans are confirmed please sign and return our moving agreement.
Clear out anything you don’t intend to take with you – remember to include the loft and garage!

Make a list of who you need to contact about leaving your present address and occupying your new one. This can include: utility suppliers (gas, electricity, water, telephone and broadband), tradesmen, Royal Mail, newsagent, your bank, doctor, dentist, hospital, TV Licensing, DLVC, Passport Office, family and friends.
Use this list to tick off who you send change of address cards to and to arrange to close accounts, open new ones, organise meter readings, disconnections and connections.
Plan to run down food stocks, especially chilled and frozen foods as fridges and freezers need to be emptied and cleaned before moving.
If you have young children and pets, make arrangements for them on moving day.
Label keys for the new homeowner or tenant.
Start the packing process in good time – it’s surprising just how long it can take! We can supply boxes, tape and bubble wrap and help with the packing process as required.
Remove any fixtures or fittings if they are part of the move.
On moving day be ready at the time arranged with the BestMove crew.
Once the van is loaded, have a final check round each room to ensure nothing has been left.
Aim to arrive at your new property with the keys ahead of the BestMove crew so no time is lost unloading.
